We where heading home after 3 weeks on the road, and a mile or so from home, I noted a muted rumble. Odd. After getting home and finding the source, I thought the pump switch had given up because there was at least an inch of water over the draw nipple. So... I replaced it because I wanted a newer, better, quieter pump anyway. I tested the old, and it ran fine.
Apparently with the low tank and varying pressures against the draw nipple as the water sloshed back and forth in the tank, it decided to start up and not shut off. Perhaps there was a slow seep too, maybe a faucet didn't get completely shut off. Who knows.
We keep the tank a little fuller now.
