Thoughts on how to patch roof leak with Eternabond

I was on my trailer roof last weekend and I noticed bumps under the rubber roof that were never there before. I already knew they were going to be from a leak and slicing open a bump or two confirmed ...

I don't think I would cut near the edge of the roof. May be harder to patch. Cutting that much I would use 6" wide tape eternabond or sticknbond tape. Would cutting an X over the bad area be less damaging to check damage? Starting small and increase as necessary.
