Thousand Trails Scam

Attended one of the Thousand Trails "We need to tell you about all the new opportunities your membership can provide"meetings This was in August of 2015.

For attending they gave me with a certificate for a 3 day 2 night vacation package good for one year from date of issue. Called the number on the certificate Monday to try and redeem it. They have no record of the cert number and were going to research it and get back to me in about an hour. Never heard back.

Tuesday I called back and was told they are not supposed to ever tell anyone they will call back. I asked to speak to a supervisor but was refused. They said they would escalate my problem to management though.

Yesterday I contacted the Thousand Trails Facebook page and got a message back that someone would "reach out to me shortly" Nothing yet!

Beginning to wonder if the whole thing was a scam.

Has anyone ever attended one of these and actually gotten the free vacation?

And I am still ... still to this same day ... mad as He!! at that dealership for setting us up they way they did. Well, they are now a Camping World, and I hope Camping World will never allow those "Membership" campgrounds come anywhere near their doors. They have Good Sam campgrounds, which are pretty decent! And Membership to Good Sam is pennies, and GS campgrounds are more in abundance.
    ...

I take it you never to into a CW, or don't pay attention.

EVERY CW I've ever been in has a kiosk (not always manned) for some membership campground sales

I take it you also don't know that Good Sam Inc (formerly AGI) also owns Camping Coast to Coast.

What was the "Free Vacation" going to be? Was this in an Encore Park that was not part of your membership?
  • Love my TT membership paid for itself in 3 years. Great for full timers.
  • When we purchased our first TT, we got snookered into the 3 day, 2 night free camp week-end. We went. It was free. But we also talked to other "newbies" there too who had been through the presentation. They all said it was "High Pressure!" To run! And the cost was unbelievable! We could camp for 8 years what they were wanting for the initial membership. Then we were religated to only TT campgrounds? And the closest one from home was 1 and 1/2 hours away. No others in our area.

Well, our "high pressure sales pitch" was scheduled for Sunday Morning, like, at 11:00 am. Guess what we did? We split at 10:30 and was out of there and never turned back! We were shocked at their prices! No way.

My opinion of TT is pretty low! My opinion: If you have not singed any paper work ... well ... "Run Forest! Run!" You'll be better off!
  • We are already Thousand Trails Platinum members but were somewhat interested in the Elite membership since it includes another bunch of campgrounds in the East which we hope to tour soon. When we found out how much they wanted to upgrade our membership, it just was not worth it. So no they didn't get any more of our money.

Incentive to attend was free camping at either a TT or Encore park and we knew we would be going to one of the Encore parks not included in our present membership this spring so, we took them up on the offer.
  • Let me guess, you didn't sign any contracts or give them any money? :)
