We are all heavily subsidizing the trucking industry that beat up the highways on a daily basis. The cost per mile to build a mile of freeway is also 12x as great to accommodate the heavy axle loads of trucks. It is the worst in West Virginia which is the poorest state in the USA based on per capita income but spends the most per mile to maintain its highways for the benefit of the coal mines' trucks.
