Tire Chains?

I'm watching the weather reports of how much snow & ice is covering some places I plan to visit & a thought just came to me.

If my Truck Camper requires chains? Does the toad or trailer also require them?

& if not should I anyways?

Jack knifing a trailer is no fun.

If my Truck Camper requires chains? Does the toad or trailer also require them? In some states yes

& if not should I anyways? Always, the trailer weighs more than the truck and it will push you right smack into a jack knife. Only need chains on one axle. Tire chains are cheaper than body work.

Jack knifing a trailer is no fun. See you answered your own question.

    Yes!

So you understand my strange way of questioning things that other people see no issue with.
  • The grapevine will be closed with less snow than the Sierra requires to even pull the plows out of the barn.
  • In a weird way looking forward to my 1st time needing to use them.

I live in LA where its 85 during Christmas, & part of why we wanna get away from the same old day in & day out perfect dream weather.

Yes, many require that you have chains in the vehicle during the winter months even if it isn't snowing. I doubt if you will find the state troopers checking when it isn't snowing.
I carry year round in the Northwest, that way I don't need to look for them in the Fall.
Never needed them, but don't want to be caught without and need them.
  • Ok I should declared that I'm not talking about where I live.

I know all about what happens around here.
its rains many stupid people speed up & crash & good for us it don't snow here.

Yet if it does they freak out & close the grape vine & don't let people through without an escort.

Yet while in Az a couple years ago it was snowing & now chains required.
    No road shut downs.
    No escorts .

My trip that concerns me is traveling through Az, Nm, Co, Ut & Nv.

My thoughts are to stay away from conditions that have chain issues ( yet seems Being from LA I have no idea how the rest of the real world handles it ) & then stay just below snow levels & then buy chains for the toad?

My Truck camper is 4X4 with AT tires though as an FYI.
  • Now look at your RV and take a look at where they will go. Do you have enough room for them to fit? I see many RV's that chains would really mess up the body work, mine included (class C).
  • And many mountain states require you to carry chains even if they are not needed.
  • CA does require trailer chains. I'd check with CHP about toad.
