I guess I caught a break on my van. I had an already patched tire that later was determined unrepairable after losing air again. On the second event, Michelin, or Sam's Club, replaced the 4yo tire and gave me a 50% credit on the replacement because there was so much tread left. Technically, it was out of warranty due to age.
I can see the point about a patched tire though, because the cords could be damaged by a puncture, and that could leave any rating unknown.

I think warranty enforcement is really up to the entity one is dealing with. So if you have a good dealer it will be easy to get warranties and if you have a jerk then . . .
BTW my 85mph unrated speed was just a recollection and probably is wrong. Just seems to stick in my mind for some reason.
