ST tires are used by virtually ALL tractor trailer combinations and are designed for what they do. Smaller trailer tires share that design.
File this "earth are flat wisdom" under internet myth.
Tires on big rig trailer tires 22.5"/etc don't share the rounded profile design nor any of the lightweight ST tire internal technology according to Goodyear 1-800 heavy truck tire tech line. Tech line says a free rolling straight ribbed design is used on heavy truck trailers which is nothing like a ST tire tread design.
You are partly right. But Tread design is only ONE part of the entire tire design which incorporates many elements. The straighter or Squarer design of the heavy truck tires is due more to the weight carried.
What all ST tires do share in common is bigger cords more steel and stiffer sidewalls than comparable sized/rated tires. That is what I meant when I said they share design elements. It should be obvious to the casual observer that the job the tires do, while the same, is very different in terms of weight.
