I had a similar wear problem last winter. It turned out to be a bent axle. The heavy equipment shop I took it to replaced the bent axle. They said that was less expensive than attempting to straighten the old axle. At the same time I had wet bolts installed. Some of the original components were definitely worn and required replacement. About 3000 miles since and no problems.
