Not sure if it could be brakes - did cross my mind, but they wouldn't cause the tire wear, and they were just checked in July.
Also checked the spare last night - it's only about 25 miles, and I didn't go over 45mph. No sign or feel of any odd wear in that short trip.
If your brakes were just checked in July and your tire wear is since then, I would be wondering if they (or you) jacked it up incorrectly and bent something or left the bearings too loose...
