I just had an epiphany about these argumentitive tire threads !
In the western United States we have considerably more opportunities to drive faster than the posted speed limit than those in the East .
Some of us have designed our towing and towed vehicles to go faster .
For us that means LT tires ( are all minimum 99 mph with very few exceptions ) and a higher load rating as posted on the tire sidewall .
The East Coast guys often argue that a brand change somehow helps them even though they are replacing an ST tire of brand X rated at 1820 # and 65 mph with a brand Y tire also rated at 1820 # and 65 mph .
More west coast guys upgrade to a load range D or E in place of the C rated factory tire .
The D and E tires generate less tire damaging heat when inflated to the maximum sidewall pressure and have a 15 % higher load capacity as stated on the sidewall .
I live adjacent to the high desert where poulations are single digit per square mile .
I have lots of opportunities to violate the speed limit on straight desert highways with clear skies and miles of visibility .
That is why my setup is 9200 # GVW towing 7200 # GVW .
There are tons of folks on this forum reccommending towing with a 6800 # gvw pickup and towing a 9200 # gvw trailer .
I wonder which setup can tow faster safely ?
The Desert Captain has to deal with more heat than the rest of us and his reccommendation of LT tires is a very good one .
