I was informed that the Carlisle is often referred to as a China Bomb.
I have heard Goodyear Marathon, Kuomo, and Power King are the ones producing the kind of tire that I can put on.
I have 235 85 16 with very little clearance between 1st and 2nd axle.
I was told by every shop in the local area I am at that Goodyear was manufactured here, but wrong!
I guess all tires come from China now. Also since I stay in rather warm weather all year around.
I was told to help keep the tires cooler is to use nitrogen
I travel alone, and feel that I need the best tire I can afford to put on the rig.
Suggestions, help anything, to set my mind at ease.
IMO:
Carlisle - CB = yes.
Goodyear Marathons haven't been mfg in the USA for a loong time (shows you how mis-informed they are)- but doesn't really matter.
(Bad choice anyway) AND, yes - most all ST tires are mfg in china.
I would run from the tire shop recommendations. Just more ST CBs!..:(
BTW - mfg in China is *not* the problem, it's ST tire specs.
Suspect you have 235/80 16.
Options = 235/85 16 - or for clearance, 245/75 16
there are several web sites - enter tire size you have -vs- the size you are considering - - results in inches.
Best choice = Michelin LT XPS Ribs or BFGs (also a Michelin tire).
Nitrogen = Sounds like the same shop that gave you the other advice!.:(
Smoke and mirrors!
Nitrogen isn't going to "help" ST tires!
If it's free - sure.
Otherwise, not worth the effort. (air is 78% nitrogen anyway).
Note: If you go to LT tires, the rims must be rated for the higher pressure. Usually stamped on the back side of the rims.
Lastly - use the search feature here (current 12 months and archives - older than 12 months) - for LOTS of info on *any* tires you are considering. Use the brand name as the search word.
Also, The Fifth Wheel forum is a better resource for 5th wheel info.
.
Carlsile has a new ST tire that has a proven track record over the last two years-
Calling them China bombs shows a lack of information. Here it is-

Even though this tire may not be right for your application-China Bomb (CB) is not applicable-well maybe 20 years ago some used them on this forum and they blew up.
