tires
Replacing my Westlakes soon on my fiver. Looking at Sailun or Blackhawk. Blackhawks are made by Sailun. Not much difference in price but my tire dealer has the Blackhawks in stock. Wanted to go ...
Yea I mean tire dealer. The tire dealer has a great shop and has good prices. A lot of fellows around here are running Blackhawks on their food trailers which some of them are heavy but not like my fiver. The G rated Westlakes have been great too with around 20k on them.
I will probably go with Sailuns as a few bucks don't mean much when you have a breakdown on the road. I was just wondering if anyone had heard of the Blackhaws.
Found out that the Blackhawks are made with the same casting platform, quality control and in the same factory with the sailuns. Not a ton of difference in price but since my tire dealer stocks them it makes sense for me to give them a try.
there is a difference though, the black hawk is a budget brand and has budget features, like older tread designs that give decent life but wear faster than more advanced designs, the make up of the belting and rubber can be different affecting wear properties between them. basically the tech is lower in the sailun groups budget tires.
also another thing you have to look at is when we talk sailun tires on here we are talking about the commercial trailer tires, usually something like the S637 which is a 14 ply tire that you will normally have to change out the rims also to take advantage of the higher air pressure they run, 110PSI.
the black hawk HST01 looks interesting but it is just a 10 ply (these are for the 16" tires on my 5th) I like how they state it is engineered to provide low rolling resistance, if that is true that's awesome, but I would like to see the resistance numbers published like they do with commercial tires. instead of a "low tech" tires that Blackhawk usually is, this might be a stop gap because the sailun name doesn't make a 10 ply, or a 12ply tire for trailers (that I know of) so it may be a decent buy
Stir Crazy the ones I am purchasing are BTR55st which is a 14 ply. It is true that the only difference is the tread design but I don't worry about that. With the amount of travelling we are doing I will want to replace them in 6 to 7 yrs anyway maybe sooner. Everyone talked about Westlakes not being a good tire but I have 20k on mine currently. The Westlakes are G rated which is what my fiver requires. I appreciate your comments.
interesting, the commercial side of Blackhawk didn't even show up on a google search when I looked.
