Well, it happened. Took my wife to the RV show in Grand Rapids two weekends ago just to have some fun, only to have both of us get very interested in a 5th wheel. The very next day, after 3 hours of negotiating, we purchased the unit. It is a Prime Time Crusader 28RL, 31'11" length, with a dry weight of 7,890 lbs. & hitch weight of 1,350 lbs. We are well under our payload & towing limits of my 6'6" bed King Cab XD, but I am researching which 5ver hitch would serve us best. Our dealer is recommending the Andersen Ultimate unit, but I am leaning toward the Pullrite Ultralight or Demco 16K (traditional) hitches. Prefer to have our truck bed fully usable when not towing, and the weight savings possible. Looking for advice from those who have used these hitches for short bed 5ver towing, both positive and/or negative.
I would bet to say once loaded your hitch weight will be above 1700lbs.
How much do one of those slider hitches weigh too? Around 130lbs?
So you are looking at 1830lbs of payload taken up before you and the wife get into the truck too? So what is your payload? Most XD 4wd models I've seen only have 1700lbs at most. Let us know.
Here is some good read for you too:
