To drive or to tow?

Hello, my husband and I are planning a 2-3 month trip across the country this summer with our daughter (who will be 6 months old during the time of the trip) and our 55 lb Australian Shepherd. We are first time RV buyers and debating whether to get a drivable RV, or an airstream trailer for our trip. Our main consideration is the safety of our daughter who will still need to be in a rear facing car seat this summer as well as user-friendliness of our travel set up. Would love input from more seasoned RV travelers!! thanks in advance for taking the time to answer!!!

  • IMHO

I would go with the Airstream travel trailer and a large suv.

Your Daughter rides in the rear facing car seat in second row seating and Australian eating machine is in a dog cage in the rear.

Your probably going to want to do other things like site seeing as you travel the country.

Going the motorhome route your probably going to need another vehicle(toad) which means more licensing, insurance, upkeep.

  • Either type of RV regardless of the brand can be perfectly safe way to travel when properly sized and set up. Without knowing a LOT more about what you plan on towing and what you'd be towing it with I really don't know how anyone could comment on the towing option. As for a drivable RV, take it for a test drive and make your decision based on his well it handles under the most adverse conditions you can assess. Different units WILL demonstrate different driving characteristics.
