I have never been flashed in when passing a truck regardless of what part of the country I'm in.
If the traffic is heavy around me and the truck I'm passing, they will sometimes flash me in after I'm clear of them.
Most seem to want to help, because if you mess up, they'll probably be caught in the aftermath, and they don't need the hassle or delay. I also see them yield the active lane to me when I'm merging into traffic from an interchange. Once I'm in, and they're past me, I will flash them to let them know they can move back to the right lane if they want. And as a TY.
