If you decide to be a Good Samaritan though, PLEASE use some common sense!
On our way back from Ohio yesterday pick up our "new" (and first!) RV, we could see in the distance a 5th-wheel pulled over on the right shoulder with someone along the drivers side (between the truck and the right lane of traffic!) fiddling with something. Folks slowed down for the most part, some got over to give room. One guy in the left lane I guess thought he would be the hero and stop to help, and did a panic stop into one of the emergency crossovers that happened to be there. This nearly set off a multi-car accident and the other vehicles in the lane reacted. A couple ended up diving for the shoulder even.
As for the original trailer stopped - as soon as we got up on it we could see the fuel nozzle from the bed mounted tank in use, transferring fuel. Pretty sure he didn't need help.
The message here? Don't make the situation worse! Swooping in the lend a hand sure isn't worth it if you end up causing an accident in the process. There was no fire (or smoke) making it a life or death situation, but it almost turned into on in the process.
