We tow our daily driver, a Subaru. The Class C takes the short route, CG to CG, then we take the toad out for our sightseeing. We usually spend 2-4 days at a CG and we only have to hook up and unhook once.
We have Subaru also, and I was wondering if you could tow a Subie because of the full time 4 wheel drive and what it cost to make it towable and what you have to do to it. rich
Only manual shift Subies are towable. The automatics cannot even be towed on a dolly. I am not aware of any modification that you can make to make the automatics towable.
The manual shift Subies do not need any modification to them before towing them. There is no max miles, nothing to disconnect. Just put the transmission in neutral, set the ignition to free the steering wheel, power the 12v socket if required, take off the parking brake, and go.
Edit: You do need a baseplate installed to connect the toad to the MH, a towbar, a braking system and brake lights, either lights that sit on the roof or connections from the MH to the toad's lights. Could cost up to about $3,000 depending on who installs it and new or used equipment.
