If you want to talk about a "minority" start counting the number of sites that will accommodate a 60'+ rig.... especially in the National and State parks.
Sorry to get into this conversation between the two of you but just to give you an idea that the shoe doesn't fit all:
95% of our RVing full-time for 16 years were stays in public parks or boondocking miles from paved roads with our 40' motorhome and towed Jeep.
Just to give you an idea of SOME of the places where we stayed and without reservations: Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, every single state park in Arizona, numerous forest service campgrounds - even in California, Denali Nat'l Park, Alaska and public parks in Alaska, Yukon, Canada and boondocking, forest service campgrounds between Payson and Greer in Arizona, Roosevelt Lake AZ forest campgrounds, numerous BLM campground throughout the West, Corps of Engineers parks and state parks in the Midwest and south areas, etc. etc.
There are places for big rigs everywhere. We can't stand private RV parks and in campgrounds, backins are much preferred than pull-throughs.
To the OP: Taking an economical towed vehicle with you will give you more enjoyment in seeing things and parking. I guess it all depends on how you will travel and what kind of places you're interested in going and siteseeing.
Everyone is different, for sure.
