We've been travelling all over the USA, Canada going on 15 years now in our 30' C. I have never had a towed. Instead I have found it easy to reserve a rental vehicle at my destination (or nearby) and pick it up enroute. The only limitation to this is if you intend to stay at a location too far from a rental facility. But when those occasions occur, we pick places that will keep us busy with activities or have transportation readily available. The newer smaller rv's with engines capable of 17+ mpg sound like a good way to avoid the expense of a towed and they are small enough to be driven in city traffic.
