to toad or not how about you?

As I've posted before we have always had 5ers (3), so we have had the truck to run around in after we dropped the trailer. But we are now going to go to a class c so I am thinking which way to go, to tow a car to run around when stopped or just drive the MH. In my case I would have to buy another car to tow, dolly or, insurance, upkeep and the hassle of towing, hooking and unhooking. It's looking more and more to me just to drive the MH. I think you could buy alot of gas for the MH for the money it would cost to have another vehicle. Type of traveling might come into this and not having to break camp to run to the store. We would be on the road more than staying put, maybe we would be somewhere no more than 2-3 days and then move on. I'm leaning for no toad. What do you think?

  • Rich I am glad you asked. I toad, the reason is I hate to be stuck in the campground. I don't RV to just see a campground, I RV to see the area. MH gets about 8 MPG in and round town so costs more. A lot of places we go have no car rental places (Helen GA has no rental cars)with in miles of the campground and riding a bike for hours to get a bottle of milk is not my idea of fun. Also I hate to unhook, load, put away things, and try to get a MH around someplace like St Augustine Florida, find a place big enough to park it and then take it back and get everything hooked back up. I agree it is more expensive to have the extra vehicle but most folks have it as their everyday ride also when not RV'n. After we traded the TT for the MH we tried twice without a toad and it was a real pain to do what we wanted. I traded my 3500 for a Colorado 4x4 and set it up as the toad. This way we have a place to put bikes and whatever and still have room for 4.
  • I would want a vehicle available at camp. Sounds to me like you've already made up your mind. I think time will tell if you made the correct decision or not.
