Toad braking unit

Please comment on your experience with a Roadmaster InvisBrake toad braking unit.

We have used an SMI toad brake unit in our 93 Toyota PU for 12 years and are now getting a new Forester to tow as a Toad.

Thank you

  • We have had the Invisibrake on the last two toads-- a 2008 Ford Focus and 2014 Hyundai Elantra.

Very much appreciate that there is nothing to move or hook up (other than electrical connection and brake-away cable).

Also like that it does not activate the toad brakes unless the coach service brakes are applied. This is especially important if you have good engine braking on those long descents.

If you trade vehicles frequently or tow different vehicle, probably not a good choice because of installation time.
