We are new to rving. One year a dozen trips. We felt limited at times without a secondary vehicle to visit nearby points of interest. I own a Honda Fit which is a small light weight vehicle. We rv Spring to early Fall. Considering purchasing a car dolly.Any advise from those who have used a dolly would be apprciated.Thanks

is the fit towable 4 down ? if so go that way.bumpy

I rented a tow dolly one time. It was not the best experience. I failed to think about moving dolly to parking area. I learned this the hard way and now preach to install small hitch on toad.I have switched many years ago to flat tow. It for me is the way to go.You may rent a dolly to see how it works for you before buying one new or used. If you decide on dolly make sure it has brakes. Surge or electric.Check owner's manual to see if Fit can be towed four down.

A dolly is a necessary evil for anyone who owns a car that is not towable four down. When we owned smaller motorhomes we never used a toad but as the size of the RV increased we found like you that we were missing out on too many things. We towed a dolly for several years and found that the biggest downside was probably what to do with the dolly after we arrived at a site. Second dislike was the time it took to get the car on the dolly and strap it down. This was especially irritating when it was raining.Get one but, my recommendation would be to make sure it has brakes.

Unfortunely, the FIT is not towable four-down. I don't like dollies, but one might be a good solution for you.

We have 2 vehicles, one of which cannot be towed 4 down so we bought a dolly. Not the most fun thing to deal with but is not as horrible as some seem to make it out to be. I can get the car on the dolly and strapped down in about 10 minutes. I have my reference points figured out so no longer need DW to help get it centered on the dolly.Make sure you get a dolly that steers and has brakes. My dolly has a pivoting turntable and hydraulic surge brakes. It was just under $1000 new. Some states require license plates for the dolly, some do not. We took our first trip with the dolly before the plated arrived and never got hassled about not having any.When the toads get replaced in the next year or so, they will be something that can be towed 4 down and the dolly will get relegated to the shed in case we need to pull a friend's vehicle.

I had no problem w/ a van on a dolly for 2 yrs.
If the Jeep would have been towable on a dolly, I would still be dolly towing.
I had a Demco car caddy w/ kingpin tie rod steering, the best of them all, but sure ain't necessary,.....an Acme rigid frame has proven to work really well.
Once set up, loading on a dolly is a very simple procedure IMO

We never had a toad and would just rent a car if we needed to go someplace and that was at most once a year. We also took tours instead of driving. We camp hosted for the first time last year and there were no car rental available for our location so this year we will be towing with a Acme tow dolly with surge brakes and a Hitch it Safe on the hitch.
As far as your Fit not being able to tow four down I have read here on the forum that the Honda CRV's after a certain year per Honda are not towable 4 down but apparently that is only to release Honda from liability and people are still towing 4 down newer CRV's following the "old" towing procedure. I would check to see if the applies to your Fit.
