What vehicle is best to pull behind a 38 ft Diesel.
  • The Equinox is an easy tow. Edited to say ... We had a 4X4 Tracker which was feather light if you are not looking for a late model. It 4wheeled like a little goat!
  • BigAWB, it really all depends on what you are going to do with the vehicle once you are parked. We wanted a lighter tow vehicle that is versatile. The Honda CR-V seats five, weights about 3,500 lbs., has plenty of storage and even more with the rear seats down. It gets great fuel economy 22 city, 30 hwy with the AWD version (if I remember correctly).

This is our second CR-V as we traded the '07 for the '13. I really like Honda's Nav system compared to the other cars we have with Nav, it's very easy to use and works well.

A lot of people tow Jeep Wranglers but we didn't really need true off-road capabilities as I have no interest in that.

    Good luck on your search.
    MM.
  • For us it is something you can haul a lot of people or fold the seats down and load it up.

With a DP, I would think you have a wide range of choices because your tow rating is probably higher than most gassers. Of course you should consult your owners manual for your tow limits. :W

Just like with every other choice in the world, it depends on your needs. If you are just running errands like going to the store, a smart car (or it's equivalent) might work :h

If you intend to explore off the beaten track, you might consider a 4wd of some sorts.:E

The dinghy towing section of this forum is a good place to look for more relevant comments. :S
  • We have been towing a Nissan XTerra for the last 8 years and 45,000 miles. No problems at all. It is automatic, 4 X 4. weighs 4,500 lbs. Problem free.
  • The only vehicles that I've towed has been Saturns and Toyotas with great success! I'm going to take a chance and go with a Honda this time. I'm in negotiations with a Honda Dealer now! I buy my tow vehicles for MPG (light cars) so I go small under 2,500 lbs. if possible.
  • What kind of vehicle do you need? In my personal opinion the absolute best toad is the Jeep Wrangler. Light weight, great for exploring, and very easy to tow and set up to two. But if you aren't into exploring the backwoods, then that may not be the vehicle for you.
  • When we had a 36' DP we pulled a 4X4 Chevy Blazer. It had a manual transfer case and towed with no preparation whatsoever. While I love my CRV as a car and a toad, it is my opinion that a Jeep is the easiest to tow and gives you the most off-road (or bad road) possibilities.
