On the Mass EZ Pass's, I didn't read all the above but for MA you need different passes for the same vehicle if you tow. 1 for the TV without a trailer and another the the same TV when it has a trailer. When not in use the extra transponder must be stored in one of the tin foil bags they ship it in if it's kept in the TV. You'll get double charged if they are both visible to the system.
I'm keeping the PA transponder for the TV, no idea how it knows if I'm towing or not. They did require the license plate number for the trailer whereas MA did not.
