Let me add a little something more to the mix, ever truck you see
going down the road pays not only road tax on every mile driven
but also fuel tax in every state driven. Along with that when a
truck uses the toll roads they pay for that as well. The fellow
who had to pay over $200 to go from PA to MO. is nothing to what
a truck has to pay to do the same thing, double it and add another
$150 and you may be close for one way. In IL. the tolls increase
almost triple during the day and drop down at night, pre-pass is
a little cheaper but not much.
As the other fellow stated a large percentage of the income taken
in go to other projects like walking trail, bike lanes, parks
mass transit, parks and little go to fixing the roads. Out here
in Washington State they are starting to toll older bridges to
pay for the new one's, funny thing is the tolls have increased
almost every six months because of the lack of traffic on some
bridges.
By the way all the money collected in bridge tolls and road
taxes in Washington State goes into the general state fund.
Most money is funneled into King County, you guessed it Seattle.
The new joke out here is the tunnel they are building in
Seattle, only 10 percent is dug and the machine broke because
that hit some steel pileings that the state forgot to tell them
about. They now have to dig a hole in front of the machine to
fix it, they say maybe September it will be fixed and digging can
start up again....Oh ya the tunnel is only about 40 yards away
from the bay as well, now they found out the Sea wall needs to be
rebuilt as well close to the tunner, here goes the tolls on the
bridges and ferry's up again along with taxes .....
One other thing is that the Indiana Toll road was leased to a
company outside the United States for 99 years. This company paid
millions of dollars to the State of Indiana, but if you look at what
the tolls were when the state had the toll road, it would have
paided more money to the state if they would have keep it than what
the company that leased the toll road is getting. The state lost
millions of dollars in the deal because the Governer whated money up
front. Some much for the people they elect, it's not their money so
why should they care.
Anyone who votes for these people to keep them in office should
have to pay not only their tolls and taxs but ours as well for
doing such.
For those people that state they do not have any tolls in thier
state, don't turn your back, almost every State now has voted
to impose tolls on new highways or additions to old highways
and Interstates.
Ugh!! off my soap box and back in the woodwork :(
