After tent camping for a few decades, backpacking then motorcycles, my gal was very excited to "bring anything I want" when we bought a truck camper. I tried to explain to her that our camper should be considered a hard-sided tent and minimalism is the way. She has selective hearing. It's a constant battle for me to save/minimize weight.
We're travelers, staying in one spot for 1-4 days. I don't set up anything outside the camper, except our entrance door scissor steps, electric, water and, sometimes, cable. Sewer hose, when required. If there's no picnic table, we have a couple folding chairs (to me, they're a luxury, but they come in handy). Ten to fifteen minutes, and I'm in chill-mode or off riding my bicycle (I very rarely separate the camper from the truck).
