Too old???

Were 71/70, been talking care of mother, We want to purchase our 1st motorhome, a used diesel pusher about 35' in length. Our concern is that we are starting out too late in life. We are in good health but at our age things change. Looking for honest opinions as to weather or not people think this is a good idea.
  • Weather it's a good idea depends on your money and your health. That's true of just about anything at 'our' age.
  • No one knows what the future holds. Go for it while you can. It's worth it.

    A while back I met a couple who were pushing 90, still on the road camping with a van and a Scamp trailer. They moved slowly and carefully, but they were still enjoying the lifestyle.
  • My wife's license plate frame says it all;

    Adventure before Dementia

    Phil Keoghen the host of Amazing Race loved the frame and that my DW felt that way at 73. We just bought the rig in my signature in Feb. Replacing a 1990 Bounder. We've just returned, reluctantly, from a five week trip.

    It's all in your attitude, which is just as important or maybe more so than your general health. I don't like adding comments like, "if your", blah, blah, blah, they are understood.
  • You are in good health. As long as you can handle the physical aspects of RVing go for it! (Setting up and breaking camp, walking on rough uneven ground, et al ).

    How old will you be in 5-10 years if you do not buy an RV?
  • Go for it. I am going on 71 and will be leaving for a two month trip next week. Don't be sitting in the rocker saying 'I should have gone'. Whatever life brings you deal with it then.
  • I think it depends on your health, physical fitness and attitude.

    Go to a few rallies (FMCA or Good Sams) and talk to the folks there. There are plenty of people over 70 still RVing. More than a few with disabilities or health issues.

    Are you prepared to handle a flat tire or being broke down on the side of the road and having to walk a few miles for help?
