I too figure 50 mph in my planning. I drive 55 to 60mph, but figuring 50mph is a pretty good gauge. I don't enjoy traveling more than 200 miles per day. The first day out of home base, LA, is usually a hard drive as it is 280 miles to Las Vegas or 380 miles to Sacramento. I've driven both so many times that it is not vacation fun anymore, just the first leg of the trip. From then on I look at 200 miles a day or less. Sometimes just 100 miles with a days sigh seeing is all the traveling I need.
