Tow bar

I'm getting ready to start towing a jeep. Can the tow bar be left pointing up when driving around? It would be a lot easier to do it that way instead of having to unclip everything and stow it away. It would be securely fastened in the up position.

  • Lucky alot of us dont care what other people think. There has been tow bars on Jeeps since the first one got towed. Go for it.

    x2 on the tacky factor
  • I towed several different Jeeps with a similar towbar, bolted to the front bumper.
It worked. And, it worked well! The really important part, it only cost $145!
When not towing, I used the safety chains to tie the towbar up. That worked just fine, as well.
Yes, it is my understanding that one can not do that in California. But then, We have never taken the motorhome to CA, and it is doubtful we ever will.
Here in Montana, though, I used to run around with the towbar sticking up on the front of the Jeep all summer long, no problem.

  • You may run into issues in some states with obstructed windshield view laws. I've heard California enforces theirs, but have never run into anyone that was ticketed.
  • If that is the tow bar you want you can certainly leave it on the jeep. One that stays on the motor home, while considerably more expensive, is much easier to hook up.
  • Depending on the tow bar, it should stay attached to the back of the MH in the receiver, in a vertical position. You're just pulling two pins to unhook it from the Jeep. Otherwise you have to unhook the hitch from the receiver which would take longer. And then it's going to rub against the hood of the Jeep.

Pull the pin on each side

The tow bar fold together and folds up staying locked upright at the rear of the MH
