Lots of good advice, a small to mid-size travel trailer is most appropriate for your tow vehicle. Depends on your actual available payload to be sure.
I still have kids at home, so I'm not ready to seriously consider what I might want once it is just the wife and I, but I think I'll stick with a travel trailer. Probably a smaller one. If we get to the point where we travel more in retirement, a 5th wheel would be more tempting as you get more interior room for the same total length of vehicle and trailer. My 28.5' travel trailer tows very nicely behind my 2500 Suburban, but I can see where going bigger yet might eventually get me to the point where I'd prefer the stability of a 5th wheel. My current combination is pretty rock solid, a 5th wheel couldn't really be much if any better, but a longer trailer and heavier trailer could change that.
