We had that problem, even had the tires all pulled off and the brakes checked.
I just knew that car was going to catch fire before we got it unhooked from the motorhome. Nothing wrong with brakes.
Found out later, right after unhooking, start engine up, run through all gears for about 5 seconds each gear, never got the smell again.
Guess it was the tire rubber/road grime, etc.
