Tow vehicle upgrade

I have a 95 half ton suburban. It only has 66000 miles on it. I want to do upgrades to give it more power. It has a 350 with 373 gears. I was led to believe a good set of headers will greatly help. So im thinking this route first, and if it needs maybe a comp cam. Which is the second part of my question. If I go with a cam, will the throttle body work ok? I have a 24 foot shasta that has been upgraded so I know it will be around 5 to 6 thousand pounds. Thanks.
  • Axle swap, especially if its only 2WD to 4.56 or 4.88 would probably be better. A 3/4 ton over same era with 454 would be far superior. What you want is more power at 2000-3000rpm. Very few modifications will do that.
  • I think the best bangmfor the buck would be a gear swap in the rear end.
Think of a gas motor as a large air pump. So unless you allow a lot more in getting the air out is of little value. You might also give serious consideration to how much money your going to spend, compared to simply swapping for a more capable TV. Remember you at the end of the day still have a 1500 Suburban. Which is borderline at best when loaded with family weight wise.
