Towing A 2018 Edge

I have a 28'2014 Dynamax(Forest River) which lists GVWR/PNVB @14,500 lbs. I weighed the coach and fully loaded it weighed 14,280.

I am trying to find out if I can safely tow, 4 wheels down, my 2018 Ford Edge weight 3900#

Is there a chart?

  • On my 2016 Edge I got a battery disconnect solenoid from Roadmaster. When I plug the electrical umbilical from the coach into the Edge, the 12V feed (charge circuit) from the 7 pin connector energizes the solenoid and disconnects the battery. There was also a diode installed so that it can keep the Edge battery topped off. The Brake Buddy runs off of the Edge battery. Works really well.
  • Does anyone have a easy way to disconnect the negative battery cable on my 2018 FORD edge front wheel drive for towing?
  • Since you are so close to the GVWR, I wonder what the weight is on each axle. I would guess you are close to or over your RAWR. If your Edge has to be towed on a trailer or tow dolly (some are flat towable) you will be adding a fair amount of tongue weight to your rear axle.
  • Check owners manual under towing section for towing restrictions.
  • Yes. GCWR of your E450 is 22,000 pounds. Your 2014 should have the 7500# hitch although that was right at the cutoff when they upgraded from the 5,000# hitch. Either way, the motorhome can pull it.

Is your edge a V6 model? The turbo-4 is not flat-towable.

You'll want a supplemental brake system.
