Towing a Miata

We have 2007 Miata, 6-speed, which we would like to tow with our 2002 Minnie Winnie 23F.
While the weights are within spec, we're obtaining conflicting information as to it's feasibility. We've noticed others who are towing a Miata 4-down, and would love to hear from you if you are doing so. We'd also be interested in any known sources of information regarding this.
Thanks
wns
  • what does the owner's manual say under recreational towing or towing behind a motorhome. what conflicting information have you been receiving?
    bumpy
  • I have heard that the Owners Manual says "Do not tow!"
I have read on here that many people are towing them with no problems.
If there have been problems, I haven't seen any of the owners come back here and say "Whoops!"
    good luck.
  • I found this thread on a Miata forum that _seems_ to indicate flat towing a 6-speed is OK but flat towing a 5-speed isn't. The guy who wrote that is a Miata owner and had a fairly detailed explanation why this is the case.

    Flat Tow NB 6 Speed
  • What would the front of the Miata look like after being towed behind a MH?

    WNS,

    We towed a 2000 5-speed over 35,000 miles and towed a 2010 6-speed over 15,000 miles until it was butt-smacked and totaled. We have now towed a 2012 6-speed over 15,000 miles.

I have assisted (with information and some hand-holding) more than 100 other Miata owners in getting their Miatas towable.

I have personally installed baseplates and done tail light wiring on 3 NC Miatas. I can answer all of your questions.

I am in north Dallas. Where are you in Texas?

PM me with your Email address if you want more information.
