I need to tow my 5th wheel from NH to Fl to trade it in on a motorhome. The dilemma is that I need to get both back to NH. My wife really doesn't want to drive either vehicle all the way back here. Any advice on how I can get the truck back to NH? It's a Chevy dually diesel. Maybe a transport company. I don't think it would fit on a U-haul tow dolly but I could be wrong. I have also considered hiring someone to tow the trailer for me, it's expensive but I know it's an option.(Wasn't sure what category to post this)

I've had similar situations myself before, I always found the cheapest and easiest solution was to break up the trip. Haul the 5er down, do the deal and drive the truck home. Fly down later and drive the MH back north. This time of year the airlines are begging people to fly one way southbound and the fares reflect it.

First option would be to tell her to suck it up, she's driving. Looking at a $1500-2000 savings over the other options, it just makes sense.Alternatively, do you have a friend or relative that you would trust to drive the truck and would enjoy a week or two on the road?Otherwise, flying back later makes the most sense but figuring $1000-1200 for tickets plus hotel and restaurants while driving the truck back makes more sense than trying to outfit the MH to tow a big dually truck.I'm sure you could pay a shipping company but figuring say $2/mile and they probably will add a fee for the drivers airfare back home will get pricey real quick.

Can you take one of the rear wheels off & trailer it?

Airfare should be under $300 with 2w notice. I would tow the 5er down, drive either the MH or truck home, fly later and drive other one home.

Do you need the dualy? Maybe consider trading that it as well or Carmax while you are down there.

This is not the same distance you are talking about, But I bought my MH in Buffalo, NY, I dropped off my trade in Albany, NY, We live in New Jersey. The dealer I bought from has multiple dealership locations, So I drove up to Albany with my trade in in tow, drove home, then a few days later DW and I flew to Buffalo, dealer picked us up at the airport, we drove our new MH home.

The other night, we were discussing something like that and the "best" solution I came up with was to tow the truck with the fiver attached but not sure how practical. The transfer case on my Chevy has a neutral position, which makes it towable, but not sure how the LEO's would view that.

What is the time frame for the return trip to NH? I ask because we're planning on going up to Dublin soon and was thinking our son (31 y/o) might be talked into driving your rig north while me and the DW are in ours.

Shipping vehicles isn't overly expensive. I bought a 2500 Burb in Oregon, and had quotes to get it from Portland to Denver for as low as $500. A DRW truck would likely be more, but it almost certainly would be less expensive than making two trips.

Look into a shipping broker or UShip. Or ask the dealer that you are buying the MH from, I am sure they have suggestions. You could get quotes to get the truck back home or the trailer down to Florida.

Look into having the dually shipped back to your home. I had a car shipped across country for 800 bucks.

Look into having the fiver towed by a service if you can ride along.

Do the drive/fly thing suggested - makes sense.

Best option: Get a friend to go - telling your wife to suck it up may cause a trip ending head injury from a cast iron pan making contact at high velocity.
