This is kind of silly. He already bought the truck & trailer. If he hadn't, I'd tell him to stop looking at anything with a "1" in its name.
But he's got the thing and no matter what you rating-sticker adherents think, it WILL tow the trailer.
Suggesting the family ride in a separate car, as if a few hundred pounds will really make a difference, isn't practical or reasonable.
