Towing behind MH....adviced needed car types

Hi, currently I'm towing a 06 Dodge Dakota behind the MH...I'm getting ready to buy another work car, i would like to try to get the best of both worlds.
would like either AWD or 4WD...and decent MPG mid 20s would be nice..I have about 4500 to spend....it looks like some were from a 1999 to 2005....
i know that manual Subaru's can tow 4 down.

does any one have any other suggestions???? Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jeff

Does the Chevy tracker have to be manual ????

my older one (95?) or so needed manual hubs (that changed later)

  • A Chevy Tracker Suv with 4WD makes an excellent tow vehicle. I just bought my third one....a 2004 V6 4WD with no rust for $4500. Prior to this I had 2000 model and 2002 model. They are perfect cars for this, and they are great for off road driving as well.

The owners manual says not to tow these over 55 mph, but I have towed these a total of 40,000 miles, usually traveling around 65 mph with no problems at all.

so a Saturn Vue automatic can be towed 4 down???

just be sure it has the Honda tranny and engine. the previous lawn mower variable drive transmission ones were not towable 4 down.

  • I also had a Saturn Vue 2004, We are just starting out with a 40'motorhome. I asked this same question on this network and got 15 replies. Don't remember all of the answers but 12 replies said to get a Honda CRV. My Vue was in mint condition for being 10 yrs old. Put it on craigslist (Fort Collins, CO) for $8,000 .Husband laughed at me and said you won't get that... within 1 hr it was sold. It only had 66k miles. But if you decide on a later model Vue, or more recent CRV that's what I'd suggest

I had a 2005 Saturn Vue with a 6 cylinder engine and automatic transmission that I bought new for towing behind my moho. I sold it a few a months ago with 100K trouble-free miles (and at least another 35K towed miles) to a neighbor after I sold my moho. I got on average 18 to 24 miles to the gallon.

BTW, the 6 cylinder engines in the Vues are 3.5L Honda engines. The 2005 models also have a Honda tranny.
