Took a recent 2000-mile road trip through the Black Hills with our V6 gasser, towing 5000lbs, and pretty much cruised in 3rd gear at 65mph most of the way. The engine was spinning at just under 4k RPM's. Red line is 6500. 4th gear felt like it was struggling to maintain speed, especially with the head wind we faced, and I really did not gain any fuel mileage increase when I attempted to run 4th gear through the hills (5th is overdrive). Also noticed that 3rd gear really brought the trans temps down (trans temp was around 215 in 4th, 185 in 3rd), and even though it was loud, the drivetrain response just felt more "normal" in 3rd than 4th.
