Sounds like having the engine at a higher RPM made you nervous. It's no big deal for the engine to stay at 4K-5K RPM going up a hill. That's much better than having it lug at 2K RPM. Also, don't worry about trying to keep your speed up on a steep, long incline if your temps get high. Do what the truckers do: pull into the right lane, slow down, and put your flashers on. You might lose a few minutes of time but gain back your transmission. ;)
