Although using the 4 way hazards light seems like a good idea,
it could result in a moving violation, depending on where you are.
Virginia Code 46.2-1040 - Hazard lights
Limits the usage to stopped vehicles or:
"Allfour turn signals may be flashed simultaneously on a vehicle slowed orstopped at the scene of a traffic hazard, when traveling as part of a funeralprocession, or when traveling at a speed of thirty miles per hour or less.Except for vehicles traveling as part of a funeral procession, all four turnsignals shall not be flashed simultaneously while the vehicle is travelingfaster than thirty miles per hour".
The Va. State Police, especially, will enforce this law.
I have a friend who was towing a disabled semi with his wrecker
in the fog, in the mountains and was ticketed.
It was costly.
Sometimes the best intentions are not enough.
