Although using the 4 way hazards light seems like a good idea,
it could result in a moving violation, depending on where you are.
Virginia Code 46.2-1040 - Hazard lights
Limits the usage to stopped vehicles or:
"Allfour turn signals may be flashed simultaneously on a vehicle slowed orstopped at the scene of a traffic hazard, when traveling as part of a funeralprocession, or when traveling at a speed of thirty miles per hour or less.Except for vehicles traveling as part of a funeral procession, all four turnsignals shall not be flashed simultaneously while the vehicle is travelingfaster than thirty miles per hour".
The Va. State Police, especially, will enforce this law.
I have a friend who was towing a disabled semi with his wrecker
in the fog, in the mountains and was ticketed.
It was costly.
Sometimes the best intentions are not enough.
Out in the western states vehicles under 45mph are required to run
4way flashers, if you don't you will be told about it. Same with
chain's, if the sign states chair's are required you better have them.
It's a differant world out here in the west with 6% grades that can
be 8, 10 or 15 miles long with switch backs and run-away ramps.....
Are the "chairs" required for waiting in the run away truck ramps? ;)
