As far as towing is concerned look at the TORQUE. If you want to run a fast quarter mile or 0 to 60 look at horsepower. The torque takes you over the hill!!
The formula for horsepower is torque in foot pounds X RPM divided by 1735. Thusley all you have to do is rev the engine up to get more HP.
That is why your diesel has a low horsepower rating.
