I question how durable and reliable that web type strap is under that sort of tension over the long haul. A chain will last decades and just how do you tell how much strength that web material has lost in say 5 years exposed to the road spray/environment down there in the tongue area. Sounds like an interesting idea on the surface, but I think chains are a much better alternative.

I had some nylon webbing type material similar to what is in those pics as a secondary retaining system on my spare trailer tire that is mounted under my tongue and it was new when I put it there back in 2008 and just last month found it falling apart due to deterioration and I had to replace it with some plastic covered SS wire rope.
