O.K., You asked!
First, I lower the coupler onto the ball enough to latch it.
Second, I thread the strap and wind the winch until the strap ring is up to the bottom of the winch, as prescribed for the best sway control. Repeat on opposite side.
Third, I raise the jack and your done.
Now, the strap goes up through the winch, till you have about 6" above the winch so it will wrap around itself. It comes with enough strap that you do not need to hold your trunnion bars up while you thread the strap. At this point I can spin the ratchet with one finger until the strap is taut, then 3/4 of a turn and the tension is set. The winch has a small mandrel that makes the strap wind very easily. It takes no more force to release it than it does to tension it. To release the tension, put enough pressure on the ratchet to pull back on the pawl at the top. This can be released by one or two or three teeth of that side sprocket at a time. Whatever feels good for you.
Here is a fun aspect of it, You can lower the entire weight of the trailer onto the hitch, raise the jack full up and set the tension while watching it push the front of your tow vehicle down. Geometry in motion.
Well goducks10, You asked for it. Happy camping.
