You missed the point ... It might be 10K new, but how strong is it 5 years from now and after being used for say 300days of towing. There is no way to tell what the true remaining strength of the strap is as they get older. It's my belief and experience that anything made out of material will deteriorate over time and it's often difficult to assess how much deterioration has occurred until things start falling apart.
Even if you had to replace them say every 5 years for reliability purposes where and how much is that going to cost you. A set of chains as I said will last 50 years on a trailer and it's easy to see the rust or lack thereof.
