Even if you had to replace them say every 5 years for reliability purposes where and how much is that going to cost you. A set of chains as I said will last 50 years on a trailer and it's easy to see the rust or lack thereof.

I've had the winch strap on my boat for more than 20 years and it looks and works the same as always. This is not a new technology and they will be aware of what it's limitations are. Unlike a chain damage to straps is very apparent and more likely to be replaced.
