Having towed about 12000 miles with a 4000# tall / wide trailer, I hated the Tacoma. It was stable, but the powertrain disappointed, the inability to manually select or even lockout gears when using cruise control, and the gear spacing that left me in 3rd gear a lot of the time was annoying. And I went through 3 of the undersized locker rear differentials in 40K miles.
Sorry to be a party pooper, but the Tacoma is a marginal tow vehicle for a full sized trailer. Perhaps read the depressing section in the Toyota owners manual regarding towing.
