It's a 305 HP Pentastar V6... Not a 2.8 S10 v6 with 115 hp..it's not a Hemi but it's not a weakling by any stretch.

If it's in the slow lane crawling around its because the driver is slow... The truck is powerful and will pull its rating with zero problem.

SAE J2807 test protocols include:

Cooling capability on a long highway upgrade
Launch and acceleration on a level road
Launch and acceleration on a 12-percent grade
Handling performance in terms of understeer and trailer sway
Braking performance in terms of stopping distance and parking brake hold on a grade
Structural performance for the vehicle, the hitch, and hitch receiver

Furthermore, SAE J2807 assumes the following when calculating trailer weight ratings:
Light-duty truck ratings assume inclusion of any options with higher than 33-percent market penetration
The driver and the front passenger each weigh 150 pounds
The vehicle is equipped with up to 70 lbs. of hitch equipment
For conventional towing, 10 percent of the trailer weight is on the tongue

The 2015 Rams meet the J2807 towing standards. That includes 2 people in the truck, climbing the Davis dam road in 100+ temps maintaining 40mph. You can count on the tow ratings now. The 2015 is about the same rating as the 2014. You will be fine.

I would assume that 7500lb tow limit includes only the driver, no luggage and a tank of fuel. Look up your trucks payload and GVWR. Probably will exceed one or both since a 6,100lb dry trailer will be over 7,000 loaded.

It will likely handle very similar to what you have now. It also won't be "unsafe" IMO, since the RAM 1500 is rated to tow over 10,000# in certain configurations.

Where you will notice it is in the performance and power. Maybe even engine cooling ability.

Whether that is acceptable performance to you is your decision. It wouldn't be for me, but everyone's definition of acceptable towing performance is different.

Personally, I would never pull the smaller trailer with the v-6 you have.

Have you considered payload? Why don't you post a picture of the door sticker?

I think it will do it OK but leave you wanting for more truck.

I would not be pleased with your current combo, so any more weight I would say no. But since you know how the current combo drives, adding 800-1000 pounds will probably not be very noticeable to the experience.
