towing with v6 Ram

I currently tow a 29' 5300lb TT with my 2014 Ram v6. It tows great and I average 12 to 13 mpg. I am looking at a 33 foot TT that weighs 6100 lbs. The Ram has a maximum towing capacity of 7500 lbs. Question: Would I have enough margin to tow this trailer comfortably?
Thanks

  • Depends.....

Are those weights loaded or unloaded? Gross max or dry?

    If loaded or Gross Max......OK

    IF unloaded or dry.......NO

That mfg. MAX Tow Rating of 7500# is a magical number derived with a base model 150# driver and 20# cargo.
Nobody fits into that in real world.

GO weigh truck camp ready.......you, fuel, passengers, stuff in cab and stuff in bed.
Subtract that weight from trucks GVWR......that is actual payload (amount of weight you can add to truck)
Also look at what rear axle weight is and rear tire load capacity vs RAWR.
How much room to you have before reaching those numbers?
  • In my honest opinion, I think you will be pushing the V6. A 6100lb trailer will probably weigh close to 7500 fully loaded, and with that you're pushing 800+ lbs of tongue. I think you will need more truck. I wouldn't tow anything that big with a 1500 Ram. Then again, others will say that they wouldn't tow what I tow with my little tractor.
