towing

thinking of switching from 5th wheel to Sprinter C. However would need a toad. Have a 2004 Jeep Liberty (automatic) can this be towed?
  • The manual for the motorhome should specify how much you can tow
Do some motorhome manuals actually give useful information? Mine is just a bunch of generic info, less than half of which applies to my specific model. I have to figure out the tow rating myself by subtracting the actual motorhome loaded weight from the chassis GCWR, subject to the maximum in the motorhome's specs (which aren't in the manual).
  • We have a 2004 Liberty 4x4 automatic and have towed it 4-down for 10 years and put on 175,000 miles. It still runs great...

Yes, it can be towed. Transfer case in NEUTRAL, transmission in PARK.

    are all Liberty's 4x4?
    bumpy

I don't know if they ALL are. Every one I have ever seen was, and the one I owned was.
  • You have actually asked 3 questions.

    1. Can the Sprinter tow a vehicle? The answer is YES.

    2. Can the Liberty be towed? The answer is PROBABLY, but check the specifics for that vehicle. There are some that can't.

    3. Can THAT Sprinter tow THAT Liberty? You have to check the tow rating of the Sprinter (e.g. 3500# limit vs 5000# limit) and the weight of the Liberty.

  • The manual for the motorhome should specify how much you can tow so just check that and determine the weight of the toad. I would pay attention to what is says and not exceed the recommended wt.

  • We have towed our 4x4 Renegade over 60,000 miles and love it. Very easy to connect and disconnect if you get the right tow bar, etc. It does need to be a 4x4 for easy towing. You need to check the towing capacity of the Sprinter as the Liberty will weigh considerably over 4,000 pounds, especially if it is trail rated.
